Before taking riding lessons --consider this!

Why did you even want to take the lessons?

Why are you taking riding lessons?

Are your riding lessons to simply following instruction, or to get a horse to go where you want them to go?

Do you desire looking like a show rider, or becoming one?  Is this the work at the barn of your choosing?

  • What goes on behind the 'eyes' of their horses?

Can you 'read the horse's feelings'???  What are they trying to tell you.  [Look IN --not AT them!]

  • What does the horse think of their work, or, of their handling?
  • What do 'they' think of their 'trainer'?
  • What do you or others really 'expect' from the horse, and riding?   What do the horses hope for?

Have you ever asked yourself --do you even know why you want to ride?

Is riding for exercise?  Self esteem?  Fun?  Or just to do something you might enjoy?

Taking riding 'lessons' can and should be fun, however, there are things that just seem to interfere with real progress.

  • Will you be learning from a 'business oriented' riding 'instructor'?
  • Are you learning what you want and need to learn, and are you sure, or do you just believe what you are told?
  • Do you know why you are told to do --what you are doing?

Do you hear answers to questions like:

"Well, that's because --that's how it is done, that's why!  Because it's the 'right way' to do it, because I said so".

Find someone who will answer your questions!   Get answers, not just a regimented 30 minute exercise program on horseback.  Both horse & rider do get tired!  How many hours --is the horse 'working' hard with traditional (work-work-work) lessons in a day?  Is it just getting 'used to doing something' until it becomes robotic?  --That becomes like a toy soldier!

Do you want to ride a horse that is overworked?

Do you really want to kick them to get them going?  Or, pull on their mouth to hold them tight or to stop them?

So, what is wrong here?  ---EVERYTHING!

What gets in the way of many riders --that makes learning to ride cumbersome, and is there more to it. that is unspoken?

Are you riding to get rid of stress --related to family quarrels, work related issues, money or just wanting more out of life?
