The New Day...

The Drive is awakening

The pastries, hot rolls, and fresh brewed coffee are waiting.

The horses are content, munching sweet, crisp hay.

          The tack is ready.

 We take a deep breath,

-----Then, quickly, get ready to ride.

We mount, and then, ---we are 'off' for the day...

The fields and trees are there to greet us,

---new, and early in the morning.

Ribbons of color lay across the fields.

gifted with Jack Frost, and the dew,

as it settles on fresh, tender, new green life.

The morning sun teases the grasses,

          with millions of twinkling lights.

The shadows, long and lean,

the trees standing firm, full of contrast,

                    ---between night and day.

The horses walk in anticipation.

The first hill is crowned, with wet tinsel,

          that parts like the sea,

              -------blue, gray, ---and green.

There's a chill in the air,

          or, is it excitement.

 The walk becomes eager now.

We wait for the first view,

not of the fox, who watches in curiosity,

                    ---but, for the 'STEEPLE' ...

How about an old fashion STEEPLECHASE

                                                                        ------------Each fall...

     DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF:

Mr. Howard F Jefferson  -My beloved Mr. J.

He was/is the very good and wonderful man, who taught me to love the horse.

Known as the 'Salt of the Earth' --and like a father to me.
